Satish Vyas ranks at the top among Pt. Shivkumar Sharma's many disciples. He has been on the concert scene for the past few years and has already made his mark as a concert artiste. He has performed in several major musical conferences all over India and had a number of concert tours of various foreign countries, sometimes accompanying Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and more recently as a solo performer.
Satish has had an untypical career compared to many musicians of his generation. As he was receiving his training in Hindustani vocal music from his father, Pandit C. R. Vyas who is one of India's premier vocalist, he also continued his academic career and secured a B. S. degree in mathematics and a M.S. degree in Statistics and Business Management. After holding top positions in several industrial and commercial firms, he decided to devote all of his efforts to pursue a career in music.
His interest in Santoor began in 1976 and ultimately he spent several years with Pandit Shivkumar Sharma as his disciple, learning the intricacies of Santoor and how to perform on this rather unusual string instrument. His efforts have been amply rewarded and to day he has become one of the leading exponent of Santoor.
Apart from his own concerts, he has also spent considerable efforts in organizing a series of musical conferences, which have come to be known as Gunidas Sammelans, to memorialize his father's guru, Pandit Gajananbuva Purohit, respectfully known as Gunidas. These conferences have become well recognized all over India, not only for the performances of seasoned and established artistes but also for the opportunities Satish has given to young promising performers.
